Doggie Yogi offers:
Most massage sessions will incorporate various levels of stretching and aromatherapy, if it will benefit your dog.
The most common types of massage for Doggie Yogi clients are Therapeutic and Senior.
Therapeutic (Swedish) massage is an excellent choice for almost all dogs. It is a relaxing massage therapy for overall well being that is wonderful for birthdays, special treats,Holidaypresents, and gift certificates for friends. It also helps increase blood circulation, range of motion, boosts the immune system and removes toxins, increases muscle tone, and helps skin conditions.
Senior massage increases the quality of life and comfort for aging pets. As our pets age, they may become inactive, depressed, or experience sickness and pain. Senior massage assists with pain management, arthritis, dysplasia, and muscle tension. In addition, senior massage improves blood and lymph circulation, increases flexibility and range of motion, increases energy level, and supports the immune system and improves overall well being. Senior dogs often have emotional stresses as they cope with decreased abilities and the aging process. Massage helps boost confidence and comforts dogs.
If your Senior dogs condition is serious enough, they may require pain management medications from a veterinarian. The longer a pet in on pain medication, the harder it is on their body (liver, kidney, etc) and they need to take more and more as time goes on as they get used to it and it becomes less effective. If your veterinarian agrees, massage may be a great place to start prior to having to start medication.
Sporting and competing dogs (Agility, Flyball, Lure Coursing, Rally, Weight Pulling, Obedience, Hunting Trials, ect) need to stretch and warm up muscles before an event to increase flexibility, help prevent injuries, and increase performance. Post event sports massage helps prevent muscles and joints from stiffening up, and removes lactic acid to prevent soreness. Massage also helps prevent future issues from developing. Doggie Yogi will travel to your sporting event and perform a pre and post sport massage.
Show dogs often have pre-show jitters. Pre-show acupressure helps the dog focus on the event at hand, and release excess energy. A therapeutic or sports massage after the event assists in calming the dog, relieves muscle soreness, and is a great reward for a job well done.
Acupressure has been used for thousands of years on humans and animals to maintain health and wellbeing. Think how good it sometimes feels to rub or press on your temples or the top of your shoulders. Acupressure is a non-invasive way of stimulating acupressure points throughout the entire body. No needles are used, as in acupuncture. Acupressure utilizes the thumb to release endorphins and cortisone to reduce pain and swelling, relax the dog, provide mental focus, and maintain overall health. Acupressure can be used to prevent health issues from occurring or getting worse. It also assists in post surgery/injury healing. Dogs are incredibly receptive to acupressure.
Aromatherapy uses high quality essential plant oils to remedy medical and emotional conditions. Like acupressure, aromatherapy has been used for thousands of years to impact both the limbic center (emotional) and they hypothalamus (hormone center) of the brain.
Stretching improves fitness and flexibility, which decreases injury risks. While dogs stretch themselves daily, they can't stretch all muslces on their own. Gentle manipulation helps with relaxation, reduce tighness, tones muscles and increases range of motion. Specific stretches also help relieve pressure on nerves.
